The story of CINEMAX
How we innovated the largest cinema network in the region
When CINEMAX, the operator of the largest cinema network in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Romania, approached us with a request to modernise their digital presentation, we were faced with an interesting challenge. Their original website no longer met modern standards.
At a time when most people use their mobile phones to buy tickets, it was essential to create a solution that would meet the current needs of cinema-goers. At the same time, we had to keep in mind that this is a large network with more than 70 cinemas, each with its own specificities.
Our way to the solution
Instead of a simple web modernization, we decided to take a comprehensive approach. We’ve created a completely new solution that connects all aspects of a cinema visit – from the initial film selection to the entrance to the cinema.
A key innovation was the creation of two distinct user interfaces – one for computers and one specifically for mobile phones. It wasn’t just about adjusting the screen size. We completely rethought the way people select and buy cinema tickets on their mobiles.

We built the entire solution on the TYPO3 content management system, which we connected to the existing cinema box office system. This created a unified ecosystem where everything works in perfect harmony:
- The cinema programme is automatically displayed on the website, mobile app and on the screens in front of the cinemas
- Tickets purchased online are instantly synchronized with the box office system
- Customers can use different types of discounts and coupons
- The system also handles specific requirements such as different ticket prices in different rows
Real benefits for visitors
For the average cinema-goer, the whole process has been greatly simplified. Now, all it takes is a few clicks on a mobile phone:
- Choosing a film and screening time
- Intuitive seat selection
- Easy payment
- Ticket directly in the mobile
No ticket printing, no waiting in lines. A visitor arrives at the cinema and simply shows the ticket on their phone.
